Overview

What we love about Kariega River Lodge

Kariega River Lodge is the most water-led of Kariega’s safari lodges, set on the banks of the Bushmans River where the reserve meets a softer coastal rhythm. Its ten suites are intimate and quiet, with private patios, river views and easy access to boating, fishing and canoeing alongside the core game-drive programme. For travellers who want a malaria-free safari with a bush-and-beach edge, this is the most distinctive Kariega option.

Awards

What awards & Acclaims have they received?

River Lodge’s acclaim sits in its unusual position on the Bushmans River, where Kariega’s Big Five safari experience connects naturally with water-based activities and boat trips toward the coast. It is a strong fit for travellers who want an Eastern Cape safari with more variety than vehicle-based game viewing alone.

Location

Eastern Cape, South Africa

River Lodge is set on the banks of the Bushmans River within Kariega Private Game Reserve. It has the rare advantage of linking a Big Five reserve with the river and sea, adding cruises, canoeing, fishing and optional beach trips to the normal safari rhythm.

From the UK, access is usually via Johannesburg or Cape Town, followed by a scheduled flight, road transfer or charter depending on the reserve.

South Africa is generally one of the easiest safari countries logistically, especially for families and first-time travellers.

Perfect for The Rewilder & The Framer

Kariega River Lodge speaks first to The Rewilder travellers through its river setting, softer pace and ability to mix safari with water, quiet decks and beach access. The Framer adds the visual variety of river light, birdlife, boat movement and the changing edge between bush and water.

Accommodation
