Overview

What we love about Tengile River Lodge

Tengile River Lodge sits on a right-angled bend of the Sand River, sharing an unfenced boundary with Kruger National Park. Now part of the Tengile MalaMala collection, the 6 properties are owner led with a community partnership model that ensures the local community benefits and is invested in stewardship of the land. The experience is expansive with 9 oversized glass-fronted modern suites, private decks and plunge pools, generous spacing and a river that carries wildlife through the day. It is one of the most design-led and private options in this part of the Sabi Sands.

Awards

What awards & Acclaims have they received?

Condé Nast Traveler has profiled Tengile River Lodge for its prime Sabi Sand position, river setting and high-design safari experience. Its current identity within the Tengile MalaMala Collection keeps the emphasis on privacy, architecture, low-impact design and Sand River wildlife.

Location

Sabi Sands, South Africa

Tengile River Lodge is set within Tengile Mala Mala Game Reserve in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, with an unfenced boundary adjoining Kruger National Park and MalaMala Game Reserve. The lodge is surrounded by 10,500 hectares of traversing wilderness and is approximately 15 minutes from Skukuza Airport by road transfer.

From the UK, access is usually via Johannesburg or Cape Town, followed by a scheduled flight, road transfer or charter depending on the reserve.

South Africa is generally one of the easiest safari countries logistically, especially for families and first-time travellers.

Perfect for The Framer & The Curator

Tengile River Lodge speaks first to travellers drawn to river light, architectural framing, private decks and the visual drama of wildlife moving naturally through the Sand River corridor. The Framer adds The Curator through its generous suite design, refined materials and highly polished private-lodge atmosphere. Together, the fit suits travellers who want the MalaMala/Sand River wildlife experience shaped by the lodge’s particular rhythm rather than by spectacle alone.
